The Solstice\u2026The Sun Stands Still. What does that mean? How is that possible?<\/p>\n

As we cir\u00adcle around the Sun each year, we expe\u00adri\u00adence four major turn\u00ading points in our jour\u00adney. These four points mark the begin\u00adning of our sea\u00adsons, and for Astrol\u00ado\u00adgy mark the begin\u00adning of the Car\u00addi\u00adnal Signs of Aries, Can\u00adcer, Libra and Capricorn.<\/p>\n

Two of those points, the equinox\u00ades of Spring and Fall, mark the time each year that the tilt of the Earth is such that we have days and nights of equal length. The equinox\u00ades are a time of bal\u00adance, with equal time between day and night.<\/p>\n

The sol\u00adstices mark the oppo\u00adsite \u201ccor\u00adners\u201d of our cir\u00adcle where\u00adin the dif\u00adfer\u00adence between day and night are at their great\u00adest. At the sum\u00admer sol\u00adstice on June 21 we have the longest day and short\u00adest night, the Sun is at its max\u00adi\u00admum. Now as Win\u00adter begins, we are in the dark\u00adest of times, the days are short, the nights are long, the Sun is at its min\u00adi\u00admum. But why do we say the Sun is stand\u00ading still?<\/p>\n

The fact is that for many months the Sun has been set\u00adting fur\u00adther and fur\u00adther South on the hori\u00adzon. Today it reach\u00ades the fur\u00adthest point South that it will go. Now, for sev\u00ader\u00adal days it will set, again and again, at appar\u00adent\u00adly the same point on the hori\u00adzon till.\u2026on the 3rd or 4th day, on Decem\u00adber 25th, we will be able to see that the Sun is return\u00ading, mov\u00ading back North. The light of our home is com\u00ading back, the world will not go dark, our hope is renewed, our faith is restored.<\/p>\n

But this sol\u00adstice is spe\u00adcial; it is coin\u00adcid\u00ading with the Full Moon of Sagit\u00adtar\u00adius, when the Sun is in Sagit\u00adtar\u00adius and the Moon is in Gem\u00adi\u00adni. And this Full Moon hap\u00adpens to be an Eclipse. A Lunar Eclipse is when the Sun, Earth and Moon are aligned with one anoth\u00ader so we see Earth\u00ad\u2019s shad\u00adow pass across the Moon.<\/p>\n

What this demon\u00adstrates, so vivid\u00adly and visu\u00adal\u00adly, is how we are indeed part of a sys\u00adtem of bod\u00adies that are in an intri\u00adcate, beau\u00adti\u00adful rela\u00adtion\u00adship with one anoth\u00ader. These great orbs cycle round one anoth\u00ader, and that they, and we, are part of a greater organ\u00adism we call our uni\u00adverse. In oth\u00ader words, what is shown to us now is that we are part of a great com\u00adpa\u00adny, a mag\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcent host, wheel\u00ading through the cos\u00admos. What we should expe\u00adri\u00adence and mar\u00advel at now is our con\u00adnect\u00aded\u00adness to this dance of the planets.<\/p>\n

At each Full Moon we expe\u00adri\u00adence anoth\u00ader rev\u00ade\u00adla\u00adtion about the rela\u00adtion\u00adship between the past (Moon), present (Earth) and future (Sun). At the Lunar eclipse, with the Sun rep\u00adre\u00adsent\u00ading pure poten\u00adtial or the Future, and the Moon rep\u00adre\u00adsent\u00ading kar\u00adma or our Past, the Earth (our Present) is com\u00ading between our past and future. That means our present real\u00adi\u00adty is hid\u00ading or obscur\u00ading the past.<\/p>\n

We often feel bur\u00addened by our past, so we might feel relieved to be seem\u00ading\u00adly freed from it. This is cer\u00adtain\u00adly true for a great many of our expe\u00adri\u00adences. But it is also true that our spir\u00adi\u00adtu\u00adal progress has been most delayed by our capac\u00adi\u00adty to for\u00adget or ignore the past, so that we must learn our lessons over and over again.<\/p>\n

We should use this eclipse to let go of those parts of our past that are a bur\u00adden to us, to cast them out as we take out the sword of sev\u00ader\u00adance and free our\u00adselves from our doubts and fears. But we must also hon\u00ador what has come before, what our fore\u00adbears strug\u00adgled to cre\u00adate, so that we pre\u00adserve what is good and true in our jour\u00adney so far.<\/p>\n

In ancient times, many feared eclipses because it tru\u00adly seemed as if \u201cthe light was going out\u201d, and they believed ter\u00adri\u00adble events were to be expect\u00aded. But wis\u00ader ones knew, as we should now, that we should cel\u00ade\u00adbrate this align\u00adment as a gift from above. The shad\u00adow falling across the Moon tonight con\u00adfirms of our con\u00adnect\u00aded\u00adness with the uni\u00adverse and with one anoth\u00ader. We are not nor will we be ever alone because we are part of some\u00adthing mag\u00adi\u00adcal and won\u00addrous.
